Axiological Foundation in Altered States of Consciousness Studies

Abstract


This article discusses the difference between traditional and modern scientific approaches to the study of altered states of consciousness. These approaches are significantly different value systems, that on the one hand, lying at the base of knowledge about the states of consciousness, on the other – resulting in their socio-cultural status. The article demonstrates the influence of value systems on the research methodology and the results obtained and defend the position of the impossibility to study states of consciousness, while we ignore the ethical and axiological component.
